Dr. Valerie Padilla Carroll is the founder and lead faculty member of the Engaged Stories Lab, as well as the Interim Head and Professor of the Social Transformation Studies Department at Kansas State University. A passionate researcher, Dr. Padilla Carroll explores the intersections of environmentalism, popular culture, and social justice. Her work focuses on environmental histories, environmental feminisms, and the sustainability and food justice movements. With a deep interest in how media shapes our understanding of these issues, her publications include articles on back-to-the-land movements, simple living, and the portrayal of environmental themes in film and television. As a visionary leader, Dr. Padilla Carroll guides the lab in its mission to amplify marginalized voices and foster transformative, community-driven change.
